The Conservatory View

I was too late to get my submission into Mojo Monday last week.  Got a little confused about Mountain Time as opposed to Eastern Standard!  You can bet I won’t forget next time…  there were prizes involved in this first challenge of the month.  Woe is me….

This card was made with one of my favorite papers from the 7 gypsies Conservatory Collection.  In fact, this tiny floral was the reason I bought the stack, which then wound up not being used because no project seemed worthy of it.  Time to get over it.   Continue reading

Hannah’s Words to Live By….

One day I told my granddaughter, Hannah, that I wanted to leave behind, as a gift from me, some words to live by that I thought were very important for her to remember.  Those words are shown on the back of this altered bird house.  Click on any photo and you will get an enlarged version.

For the rest I used some phrases I knew she liked and would add to the meaning of my own words of wisdom for her.  There is actually another roof piece that fits on top of the one shown here with four more quotes.  They are lengthy and hard to read from pictures but Hannah will find them as guides to enjoy the journey in several ways.   Continue reading

My Favorite Thoughts

I have been attempting to do the kind of layering in my cards that I see in some of my favorite designers cards; like Becca Feeken and Andrea Ewen.

I love the Spellbinders dies for their intricacy and layerability so I have used four die cuts for the center medallion on this card as well as three layers of the background papers.  I really have to think about it a lot and review some of my favorite designers creations  before starting.  Hopefully, it will become second nature as it seems to be for them! It’s Milu’s Birthday!!

Through my searches on Ebay for crafting materials, I came across the loveliest lady, named Milu, who has a shop there (Miluscrapbooking).  We email, facebook and talk on the phone.  We have celebrated birthdays and holidays together; even tragedies and concerns.

Now, Facebook tells me her birthday is Saturday.  I had a gift all packaged for her and ready to go but something nagged me about it and I had to pull it out and revise it.  I want it to be really nice for my friend.  It is a hanging stick pin cushion fashioned after a Becca Feeken design. Angelic Garden Album Cover

I have seen a number of ways of storing Spellbinders’ Dies. One of them is to use magnetized sheets and create an album for the dies.  I decided to try this.  Remember, if you click on the image, you will get a larger view of the detail on these three photos. Continue reading

Andrew’s Birthday 2012

My grandson, Andrew, was my first grandchild.  All grandmothers are a little bit crazy when it comes to their grandchildren but I took it to a new level!  The better part of his young years, he and his mom (my daughter, Bronwynn) spent most of their time in our home.

My daughter would take him to day care on her way to school and I would pick him up on my way home from work because she had a job to go to after her classes.  Seeing his smiling little face as he ran to me when he realized I was at the door of his classroom was the highlight of my day!  When he left with his mom to go home for the evening, it was almost as if the light in my home and my heart wasn’t quite as bright as it had been when he was there. First Communion for Sidney

My dear friend, Pat, has a granddaughter with a First Communion  ceremony coming up this weekend.  While we visited with them on vacation in Ft. Lauderdale, Pat came up with the idea of a momento box for her granddaughter, Sidney, to commemorate this special day.  She left everything totally in my hands except that she wanted a particular quote from Anthony DeMello, JS.  And she was very definite about Sidney being a very girlie girl even at the tender age of 8.  This is the box I created. Uncommon Easter!

My youngest daughter is not a lover of pastels, as her mother definitely is…  I have to get my mind in a whole different place when thinking of “Megann” and “Easter”. Therefore, we have the bird house; a symbol of Easter and Spring.  And we have a darker color scheme with a less flowery paper which definitely says “Megann”.

Bonjour ! Copycat Compliment

My very favorite designer, Becca Feeken (www.amazingpapergrace.com), did a card the other day and I immediately recognized the paper she had used.  It is one that my sister and I love and I grab a couple of pieces whenever Hobby Lobby has it on sale.  Neither Michael’s nor Joann’s carry it.  Thank goodness for Hobby Lobby! The Warmth of Home

My sister-in-law, Denise, asked me to make a special card for a friend of hers.  The lady was divorced long ago and has never owned her own home.  Until now!  Denise is so excited for her friend that she commissioned a special card to accompany a gift (probably hand-made and gorgeous) for her friend.  Continue reading
