Mellow Hello

Some time back, six months ago to be exact, I got a wonderful birthday present from the DH.  He likes to give wonderful (and reasonably priced) gifts but just doesn’t have a clue about what that might be for me at any one time.  I decided a long time ago that my pride could handle giving him some specific direction on what I really wanted.

Enter the beautiful set of Spellbinder’s Edge Dies.  There are three in the set; you are seeing two of them here.  I had been coveting these for a long time.  There are several styles and I wanted one that would be of universal use to me.  This was my choice.

I could hardly wait to get in the craft room with them when they arrived and accidentally hit upon the color choices you see here from my stash of random pieces of paper that I bought before I started buying papers in already color coordinated collections.

The flower was handmade (by me) out of strips of soft, sheer cotton that had once been a well-used blouse I purchased at the Goodwill store.  All the wearing and washing of an old blouse lends a definite “patina” to fabric that I cannot find in new fabric or in ribbon.  Nor will either of those give you the shabby chic look of the fraying at the edges.  So cool…

My flower center is one of a pair of vintage earrings given to me by my 104-year-old friend and fellow Mah Jongg player, Millie.  I have an entire shoe box filled with the treasures she and her daughter, Ann, gave me for my crafting.  What a blessing!!  And this one could not be more perfect for this card.

The ribbon is from Hobby Lobby; it combines dots and sheer color… two favorites.  So pretty!

I hand-wrote “Hi” on a little tag.  I’ve been trying to incorporate some handwriting in my cards because it seems more personal.  I know how much I am touched by the sight of recipe cards and little notes on the margins of my cookbooks that were written by my mother in her own hand.  Maybe one of my cards will survive to give that joy to someone I shared a card with one day.

Thank you for stopping in to take a look.  Summer is such a busy time for everyone and I am so grateful that you took a moment to share with me.  Blessings and Hugs, my friends!!

About Charlotte Zweigoron

Married, retired, never been so busy..! One of my most prized possessions is my very own craft room! And, actually, all the rest of our home is built around that craft room. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. I have been living in Georgia for over thirty-five years after a four year stint in Chicago. Crafting, reading and playing Mah Jongg with our circle of friends are my favorite activities right after spending time with my four grandchildren and four great-grandsons. Two of my three grown daughters and one of my two grandgirls live right across the yard from my husband and I. The youngest daughter, her husband, and our grandpups live in our same town. I have been teaching a paper crafting class for over three years and the ladies in the group have become a second family. We are well and truly blessed with people and critters to love..!

  1. Very pretty and shabby chic, love the repurposing of an shirt and also that beautiful earring! I have a store near me that sells old vintage jewelry and love adding to my creations. Lovely color palette, too. Sometimes the best ideas come when we are not trying to look for them!

  2. Ann says:

Love the card. Can’t wait until our next class!!!
