And here we have baby stuff revisited.  Doesn’t look like baby stuff to you?  Well, it is… at least for the generation that is into Steampunk and Grunge.  Bye, bye Beatrix Potter; hello Harry Potter.  My new little great-grandson’s mama does most of her baby shopping on Etsy so that they can get the style that suits their taste.  Being a bit of a Steampunk fan myself, I am all about it.  

This piece was a little thing I got through the ABC Catalogue (are they still around?) when my very first grandchild (daddy of the great-grandson) was a toddler.  I think it may have cost me $3 or $4 at the time.  It didn’t take long for the pegs that were on it to wriggle loose from the hot glue that held them in and I replaced them with the brass hooks you see now.

It was always screwed to the back of the kitchen door or the end of the kitchen counter so that Andrew and the little ones that came along after him had a place they could reach to hang up their own jackets or sweaters when they came to visit grandma.  This too was part of its evolution as the little wooden plaque’s original hangers stripped out of the soft wood and had to be replaced by screws and anchors almost immediately.  Nothing about this little thing was intended to last over 25 years nor was it ever really meant to hold a jacket or sweater, I suppose.  But it was cute and I liked it.

One by one the grandchildren outgrew the need for it and graduated to the “big people” hooks in the hallway but I couldn’t let go of this precious piece or our history.  Like so many things of this type, it got placed in a box on a shelf somewhere and heaven only knows how I happened upon it at just the right time to revamp it in the Steampunk style and pass it along to the next generation.
